Minutes from December 6, 2023
Treasurer’s Report from Ray Bodnar: Starting balance from last meeting $2,725.31 in checking account and $5,000 CD. Total income $169.51 and total expenses $791.86, leaving a balance in checking account as of 12/6/2023 of $2,102.96 and $5,000 CD. Our expenditures have increased since we are now taking care of the grass on both sides of Ruthar Dr. at the entrance. Dues for 2023: 129 homes paid from Harmony Hills and 25 from Lexington Square. Dues for 2024 remain at $10, payable to Harmony Hills Civic Association, and can be mailed or dropped off to Ray Bodnar, 207 Tamara Cir.
Road Development Updates:
- Red Mill Road - work will continue for another year.
- Route 4 & Harmony Road – may be doing work following input at a “Public Visioning
- Workshop” held on Monday, December 11 at Cranston Heights Fire House on Kirkwood Highway
- Land Transportation Plan – will encompass Route 7 to Elkton Road (Elsmere to bridge at Windy Hills Development) for corridor improvements also discussed on Monday, December 11 at “Public Visioning Workshop” at Cranston Heights Fire House.
- Churchman’s Crossing Development plans – Community leader input to relieve some of the traffic congestion
- Eastbound Route 2 – Will be closed between Harmony Road and St. James Church Road from Tuesday (December 12th) to Thursday (December 14th) 10:am to 2pm daily.
- Astro Shopping Center – vacant stores torn down and cleared
- Avon Plan on Route 273 – Starting with storm water management and development of a hotel with same square footage as the former plant
- Old NCC Building on Route 2 - sold and now seeking variances
- Meadowood 2 Shopping Center – Facelifts occurring. Also developing sports bar, Kirkwood Country Club
Neighborhood News:
- Speed bumps for Harmony Hills are fully funded, and tentatively scheduled to be installed in the spring 2024.
- Property Complaints – NCC Rep Tim Sheldon reported there were 26 complaints filed since the last meeting and 22 resolved.
- Issue raised with bike access and pedestrian walkway needed at Ruthar Drive. Both Tim Sheldon and Jack Walsh concurred that DELDOT would need permission from deed holders to build a continuous paved road between each facility site. Also an issue was brought up that there needs to be better access to Route 273 for commuters using bicycles.
- Santa on the Firetruck coming to Tamara Circle then on to Scalia’s Daycare on Saturday, December 16 at 5pm. Update: Due to an emergency that put the run behind schedule, Santa was only able to stop at Scalia’s daycare for a short time.
- A.J. Ianozi at 425 Tamara Circle is developing a website for the civic association. It was decided at the meeting the web address will be hhlex.org
- County Councilman Tim Sheldon and Senator Jack Walsh stressed that there are a number of job openings with good benefits available with New Castle County and the State of Delaware. You can check job openings on their websites.
- Paul Piscarik is working on setting up a Paypal/Venmo account for the civic association to make it easier to pay dues for 2024. Until that is set up, dues can be dropped off to the Treasurer, Ray Bodnar at 207 Tamara Cir. Dues are $10. Make sure to include your address.
